Angel’s Feather, a yaoi anime that was taken from a BL or boy love computer game, would win your heart instantly with the character’s cuteness, the story’s depth, and the fantastic element that makes the story an even more unnatural adventure. It has a run time of about 30 minutes per episode and the BL content isn’t as hard as in other yaoi series and not as heavy as compared to its computer format.
The story begins by introducing the life of a boy named Hamura Shou, who just transferred to Yuusei Academy. A very optimistic and helpful character, he soon meets new people, and makes new friends, one of which is the top student of the academy and heir of a great corporation Misonou Kai. What fascinates Shou about him is that he resembles his long lost twin brother, which resulted to him growing very attached to Kai. Yet despite denying Shou’s confrontation and shunning him away, Kai cannot help but wonder about Shou and how he may have some relation to his past. He feels troubled, even in the presence of his dear friend, Nagi.
The fantastic element mentioned before revolves around the story of an imaginary kingdom called Wingfield, ruled by chosen ones who possess a pair of magical white wings. It is not until the middle sections of the first OVA that we are introduced to the magical world. Shou’s hidden powers, represented through a large pair of white wings sprouts out of his back, were revealed during a battle against a mysterious eight-legged monster after falling into a large cave underground. As the anime progresses, more and more are the characters’ hidden identities revealed, bringing to life the history of Wingfield and their pasts.
The emotions portrayed in the anime are very intense, which is something I admire and expect in every anime. Adorned with a great opening song, emotion-filled voices and handsome faces, Angel’s Feather is the ultimate treasure chest for fans of cute bishies with angel wings. The sketching of the characters is all throughout very well done, especially with the eyes and the gestures in the anime. The boy love, since it functions under the yaoi genre, can be seen in random moments of the episode such as Kai and his intimate blue-haired friend Nagi and Kyouhei and Yuuto. The romantic and intimate moments shown between guy and guy produce such an exciting feeling that it makes a normal viewer like me shiver in pleasure.
In terms of the storyline, it is confusing at first until one finishes the second OVA. The story continues to refine itself as the anime progresses, showing the viewers each character’s personality, personal reflections, dreams, and character in a time of peril. Overall the entire plot is filled with adventure, mystery, romance, and fantasy that the viewer will be wanting for more. Though the BL content is very light in the anime, many yaoi fans will burst in pleasure due to the combination of romance and deep words.
